Hybrid varieties of tomatoes can be a wonderful addition to any garden as they’ve been bred to have unique tastes or hardy features about them.
A HYBRID tomato is created by human-influenced cross-pollination, taking the pollen of one plant and putting it on the stamen of another. The first generation of tomatoes after that are considered hybrids but these hybrids are often sterile or if they produce viable seeds, they are of the genetics of one of the parents. Therefore, it is critical to know if you are growing hybrid varieties as their seeds most likely should not be saved for future growing seasons.
(This is not to be confused with an HEIRLOOM variety that has been selectively reproduced for certain characteristics and passed down for generations.)
Below is a list of hybrid varieties edited & adapted from the Gardening Channel. If you know additional hybrids you don’t see on this list, let me know in the comments below and I will add them.
