Founder Melissa Smith & her husband, Justin, have traveled over 16,000 human-powered miles together across the globe. They’ve hiked 2,663 miles from Mexico to Canada together on the Pacific Crest trail. They’ve bicycled 6,000 miles down the spine of the Andes in South America. Summiting passes in the Himalayas, paddling the fjords of Norway in the Arctic Circle, and even dog mushing in Alaska… their resume of human-powered adventures is extensive.
All the while through these travels, they stayed on organic farms through a program called WWOOFing (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms), learning techniques throughout the world for how to grow food using regenerative gardening practices. Melissa also completed an intensive permaculture design course from Occidental Arts & Ecology Center and uses these skills gained to share her passion for a holistic approach to gardening. It is a dream come true to be able to help others create thriving home landscapes, that are beneficial to families, their communities, and even our planet’s climate!
